MISSIONS

Because it is so exciting to discover how churches are using these mystery dinner scripts in order to raise funds for missions, I thought it would be interesting for other churches to see!  Read through the following summaries for encouragement and inspiration.  Yeah God!!

Hanover Presbyterian Church in Clinton, PA . . . This year will be our 7th annual mystery dinner to raise funds for our mission trips!  Last year we went to Kentucky and built 11 homes.  We'll return to Kentucky this year to help more families.  Our small church of about 100 also works with other churches to help our own community.  Our group is called "Hanover Helpers" and we assist with small needs like home repairs or car maintenance.

Typically, we present three performances on Friday and Saturday night and a matinee on Sunday.  The $17 for adults or $13 for children gets choice of fresh roast or a full chicken dinner!  Spaghetti is the food of choice for our matinee.

ADDITIONAL CHURCH FUNDRAISERS

When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'  "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'  Matthew 25:38-40 (NIV)

Flat Rock Baptist Church in Liberty, SC . . . We presented our first mystery dinner as a fund raiser for our Acteens (teenage girls) to attend a conference in Kansas City this summer and raised $1474.   We have 18 Acteens & leaders attending a national Acteens conference in Kansas City in July, 2007 and we needed to raise between $9,000-10,000 to be able to go.  Because our church has been in a building program and having fund raisers for that and our youth always do fund raisers for summer camp and mission trips, I was looking for things to do that would not interfere with those efforts and where we didn’t have to sell stuff.  I feel like people eat out a lot and look for clean, fun, family entertainment.  I searched for ideas on the internet and was thrilled when I found some sites suggesting mystery dinner theaters.  That was something I had never thought of and thought it sounded like great fun.  It was not hard to get others involved in fund raising to share my enthusiasm!!  We will definitely be doing this again.

Gregoryville Christian Church in Grayson, KY . . . Relay for Life is an event that began in 1985 with one man to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.  In 2001 our church decided that we wanted to get involved because so many of our families and friends have been affected by the disease and we wanted to help find a cure.  Through various fundraisers last year, we raised $10,507!

This year was our first mystery dinner theater.  We thought it would be a wonderful way both to raise funds and to encourage people to come to church who might not come otherwise.

I was inspired by God to create this page to encourage others to see God at work all across churches in the U.S.  We hear so much negative and I want people to see the FABULOUS things that Christians are doing to share God's love and to lead others to come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!

Please email a brief summary of how your church is using these dinner theater scripts to raise funds for spreading God's love and His Word!  I would love to let others know about it on this page!

Thanks!! -- Nancy Bond
